Automated systems delivered to FLS for analysing potash fertilizer for a customer in Eastern Europe
The customer located in Eastern Europe was seeking a solution to automate several tests such as titrations, gamma radiation spectroscopy, Fourier transform near-infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIR), flame photometry/atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), and Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES).
The automation of these tests would allow 24/7 unattended operation, improved productivity and turnaround time for results back to the plant, leading to tighter control over the process and associated cost savings.
FLS’ end-user required five different instruments to work together with the same samples. HF Innovation is a European-based manufacturer with a long history of building complicated and bespoke automated systems incorporating a variety of different instrument brands into the same machine and making them work together. This made HF the obvious choice for designing and building these systems.
The system comprises two independent automated modules which are integrated into a 3rd party automated sample preparation robot cell. The first module features a Bruker MATRIX-F II FT-NIR and an AMETEK Ortec scintillation radiation detector. The second module can add liquid reagents to the samples, filter them if required, and then present them to either the Metrohm 2026 Titrolyzer Titrators, Krüss flame photometer, or the ICP-OES.
The modules were completed on time and within budget and have been successfully delivered to the customer. They have already been installed and integrated into their existing automation. The customer is extremely happy that the modules have allowed them to control their process by providing more frequent and reliable results than their previous manual operation.
